Discover types of curriculum that work better for these special kids and come to trust in God's plan for each of His children.
Meet Lisa Goff: Lisa is a writer for the LDS Sentinal and a tutor with the Dyslexia Center of Utah. She and her husband have been homeschooling their four children for seven years. They have learned many lessons along the way about teaching, loving and living life to its fullest. The insights gained from teaching their two sons with learning disabilities have been invaluable, and they want to help other families see the great blessing these kids can be. When she's not teaching Lisa loves to read, garden, hike and do yoga.
Dianne McLean -Socialization: Busting the myth of the "S" word In Dianne’s training you will learn: This speaker was terrified of just ONE thing when she made the decision to homeschool her children: what about their socialization? In this shocking presentation, get the facts she learned about homeschool socialization. What do homeschoolers really do to socialize? Does homeschooling work to effectively integrate children into society and adulthood? What are the secrets behind great socialization? All the questions that skeptics ask will be addressed such as: What about prom? Aren't they missing out? How will they know to differentiate between good and evil? What if there are no other homeschoolers around? You'll get straightforward facts, nothing hidden or covered up. Group and organization leaders will especially benefit from the practical and effective ideas presented.
Meet Dianne: Dianne McLean is a veteran homeschooler whose children have all graduated and went on to the colleges of their choice. She has actively participated in organizing academic field trips on a national and regional level, provided homeschool group leader support, and helped thousands of homeschoolers across the country through online support channels. Dianne is the director for Home Education Council of America and currently provides course curriculum support for home educators in all grades from K-12 and beyond.
Nicholeen Peck -Teaching Self Government This was a great call, Nicholeen shared stories she has never shared before. She shared experiences that increased her faith in Jesus Christ. She also shared how she was a teenager and through some hard experiences she learned how to be a youth. This is a call you don't want to miss.
Stephen Miller -Using the Beatitudes in teaching your children. President Ezra Taft Benson admonished all of us to take the Book of Mormon and its message to the world. He also asked writers and musicians to create works that would inspire a new generation of youth to rise up to the challenge of staying righteousness in an increasingly dark world. Writing a book about beatitudes in a sci-phi manner was his answer.

Krystal Rose and Melisa Nielsen WALDORF EDUCATION Waldorf Education is interested in the questions: • How do we establish within each child his or her own high level of academic excellence? • How do we call forth enthusiasm for learning and work, a healthy self-awareness, interest and concern for fellow human beings, and a respect for the world? • How can we help our children find meaning in their lives? Developed by Rudolf Steiner in 1919, Waldorf Education is based on a profound understanding of human development that addresses the needs of the growing child. Waldorf teachers strive to transform education into an art that educates the whole child—the heart and the hands, as well as the head. The desire for Waldorf students is to cultivate a lifelong love of learning as well as the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual capacities to be individuals certain of their paths and to be of service to the world. (taken from whywaldorfworks.org—the official site for Waldorf Education)
Meet Krystelle: Krystelle Rose grew up in Utah and has been involved with Waldorf Education for about 9 years since her oldest daughter first went to Abella Kinder Cottage, a Waldorf Inspired School in Pleasant Grove that meets a few times a week for 3 or 4 hours. Krystelle later taught at the school for a number of years and was involved in planning Fieldtrips and Festivals. In 2011 Krystelle started Utah-Waldorf, a community support group for Waldorf Education. She also planned and put together the first Waldorf Conference in Utah. Krystelle started her MBA while living in San Francisco and has a BS degree from BYU. She is also a certified Simply Music Piano Teacher. She has traveled around the world extensively, including serving a mission in Poland, participating in a study abroad in Israel, Egypt and Jordan, visiting many countries in Europe, and most of the states in America. In her earlier years she enjoyed surfing and scuba diving in Hawaii where she lived for a year. She met her husband in Virginia where she lived and commuted to work in Washington, D.C. She enjoys being out in Nature, loves music (sings, plays piano, guitar, flute, and is recently learning violin), reading, and being with her wonderful husband, and 4 lovely children. She is happy to be involved in Abella Kinder Cottage again this year and support the growing Waldorf Community.
Meet Melisa: Melisa Nielsen is an LDS mom of 5. She and her husband, Erik, run Waldorf Essentials. Their company works with hundreds of families each year to bring the magic of Waldorf education home. Melisa has been studying Waldorf education for more than 10 years and all of her children have been educated with Waldorf from the beginning. Her oldest is nearly 16 and her youngest is 16 months. She has lectured at many conferences on Waldorf education in the home setting and works with families and schools world wide. She and Erik write and produce curriculum and support materials as well as a Waldorf homeschool teacher training course called Thinking, Feeling, Willing.

Click here to listen to Michelle Withers Michelle WithersKeep your eye on the ball Empowering teens do the right things for the right reasons Setting goals is one of the best ways to keep focused on what’s really important. I’ve found that teens are empowered and gain great motivation as they keep their eye on their long term goals. They manage their time wiser, they are more selective regarding the activities they participate in, they are more self-directed and accomplish a great deal more. Teens are learning how to become responsible adults. They become what they can envision. Goal setting activities like dream boards, dream sketching and creating other visual aids are all ways to help them keep their eye on the ball and not get distracted by the many influences of the world.
